So I made it. I was a little bit apprehensive after I’d scheduled all those posts that I might pass away in my sleep – but I made it through the night .
I touched down in Adelaide the night before – still 39 – and into a state that is actively policing borders. Our original plans to head home to Wagga and catch up with friends and family were based on the borders reopening on the 20th of July, but due to the surge in Victoria the South Australian government decided not to do that. Qantas then cancelled our direct flight and we were redirected to fly from Canberra to Brisbane and then on to Adelaide in order to cross back into South Australia.
So instead of a leisurely 1.5 hour morning flight we spent the whole day in transit. When we arrived we had forms that needed to be checked and then told we had to have a mandatory Covid test within 24 hours. So that night we traipsed to the hospital clinic to have our throats and noses swabbed.
And then into sweet isolation…
Yes my birthday was the first day in quarantine. It was my first day back at work too, and the whole family going back to “Life at Home”. Living and existing within only these 4 walls.
It was all quite anticlimactic.
