The National Debate

It’s government budget time so the airwaves are filled with wingeing and whining pollies, pundits and people. It’s painful and frustrating.

Apparently this discourse all comes under the banner of a “national debate”, although the truth is far from it. There is no debate. Debates usually have rules attached and they include developing a clear and concise argument.

What’s happening now is not a debate. It’s a glorified version of “yes it is, no it isn’t” played out and supported by the media.
